An exhibition dedicated to the Japanese post-war movement at the turn of the ’50s and ’60s that were of instance in Osaka. The group is now recognized as one of the “inventors” of the most popular artistic form in the contemporary art world: the installation. In addition to this invention, the Gutai Group’s activities, which ranged from painting to avant-garde theater, rewrote the languages of postwar art, not only in Japan, but worldwide. The exhibition covers the wide range of masterpieces, most from various Japanese museums. In the garden adjacent to the museum, a pathway features outdoor installations composed of the works of the Japanese art movement, reconstructed according to the superintendence of international experts.
